The default base system for MacBench is a Macintosh LC III that resides in the ZDBOp Research Center. This is an out-of-the box LC III with 4 Mb of RAM, an 80 Mb hard disk, an Apple 14-inch monitor, 512 K of VRAM, and no floating-point coprocessor. MacBench is designed so that this LC III returns a score of 10.0 on each of the main tests.
ZDBOp uses the following system setup when running MacBench on the LC III:
• System 7.1
• A clean hard drive. ZDBOp runs a utility that defragments the hard drive before running MacBench.
• The disk memory cache size is set to 32 K.
• 32-bit addressing is on.
• Virtual memory is off.
• AppleTalk is off.
• Color depth is set to 8 bits.
In addition, ZDBOp tests the LC III with the system extension software configuration that the LC III ships with from Apple(R). These extensions are:
A/ROSE General Controls Numbers
Basic Color Monitor Keyboard QuickTime(TM)
Cache Switch Labels Sharing Setup
Color Map Sound
Date & Time Memory Startup Disk
Easy Access Monitors Users & Groups
File Sharing Extension Mouse Views
File Sharing Monitor Network
If you are trying to duplicate the LC III tests, then use this system setup.
NOTE: If you run MacBench on a Macintosh LC III and you do not achieve scores of exactly 10.0 on the main tests, do not be concerned. While this is the score that MacBench returned on the LC III in the ZDBOp lab, normal variations can cause your LC III to return a slightly different score.
In addition to running MacBench using the standard ZDBOp system configuration, you may want to vary your system setup. Doing this lets you see how different system setups affect performance.
